A Treat for Local Residents
Meals for older peoople given by Bistrot Pierre during the cost of living crisis.
French restaurant Bistrot Pierre opened its doors to a party of 30 older people in January, nominated by Action for Elders, to enjoy a three-course Menu Pierre meal for free.
During the cost of living crisis, those in the older community are finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet with many having to choose between heating and eating. In a charitable initiative held in the run-up to Christmas, Bistrot Pierre donated a free meal to a resident, carer or charity-user for every Sunday Christmas party booking of six people or more.
The partnership with Action For Elders resulted in 30 free lunches for local Swansea-based residents in January. The event was a huge success as the 30 participants sat down to enjoy each other’s company and a lovely lunch.
”I can’t believe I was given the opportunity to eat in a restaurant like this, the food and service was excellent,” said one resident.”
It’s been a very tough time for so many older people and we are helping as many people as possible through the winter months.
”I can’t afford to go to a restaurant like this so I am really grateful to be here,” said another happy resident.
Working in Partnership
“The charity was delighted to work in partnership with Bistrot Pierre on this initiative”, said James Lewis, Chief Executive of Action for Elders. “In these challenging times it was particularly heart-warming to see young members of staff ensure that our participants were well fed and looked after.”
“Events like these are so important to older people, as they allow for them to meet socially and discuss the common challenges of later life. It also provides a positive environment away from the social isolation and loneliness many have to cope with on a daily basis. Our grateful thanks to this wonderful venue and staff for their generosity and time in asking us to become a partner. We are now talking about making the restaurant our home for new Social Walks in the Spring!”
