Who we are About us About us Action for Elders is a registered charity We are a developing charity with a very big impact. The Balanced Lives Programme can change lives. We currently work Nationally in six locations: Sheffield, York, Peterborough, Swansea (Sketty), Barry (Vale of Glamorgan and Hereford. See PROGRAMME LOCATIONS for full details. We care about older people. We truly believe we can make a real difference to the quality of later life for everyone, whatever their circumstances. A Community Interest Company Designed for the Public Good Community Interest Companies (CICs) were introduced to the UK in 2005. They are designed so that all profits they make and assets owned can be used for the public good. CICs are growing in popularity in the UK, accounting for around one in every 200 new companies. There are at present 12,000 CICs on the Regulator’s register, of which the majority are within third sector areas such as health and social care. Action For Elders UK CIC was formed in 2011 with a separate management board and constitution to our registered charity: Action For Elders Trust. Its purpose is to respond to commercial and trading activities that are required as part of our work. It also provides experienced management advice to our charity, as and when required. An asset lock allows all of its financial surpluses (if any) to be transferred to our charity. Our Specific Objectives We were created with specific objectives: to help older people and society cope with the major challenges posed by increasing longevity. It is good to get together and enjoy meeting and exercising every week- Balanced Lives participant, York We focus on a number of aspects of coping with being an older person – particularly helping people to remain mobile, with the opportunity to socialise with others. The services we provide are in line with the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF 2002). We work to ensure that older people have the opportunities to stay fit, healthy and fulfilled, while reducing social and health care costs for local and national governments. Our strategic objectives are to: Improve the general health and well-being of older people. Enhance their feelings of well-being, ensuring respect and protection of dignity. Reduce social and health costs, so that funds can be used in other areas of health priority. Build a sustainable and focused organisation that will help to change the way our society thinks and cares about older people.
