Action For Elders Special Events
To add a further dimension to our Balanced Lives programme, we introduced a series of special events during February and March to broaden the scope of our Getting Back Out There Campaign.
Why Social Events are so Important
Social events are hugely important in that they give people the confidence they need to beat anxiety and ‘Get Back Out There’ into the community. With NHS wating lists rising on a weekly basis, building mental resilience in the community and taking preventative health measures is our number one priority.
Events So Far This Year
Our Special Events included an outing to see Save The Cinema the inspirational story of a how a local community came together to protect their local cinema. There was an educational event: the Josef Herman Heritage Trail Walk, which took a look at the fascinating life and work of Jewish artist and refugee Josef Herman.
We also organised a series of free lunchtime events; including a Valentine’s Day lunch on February 14th and St David’s Day lunch on March 1st at Pontyclun Café 50 to bring people together. After the social restrictions caused by the pandemic, these lunches proved hugely popular; helping us to tackle anxiety and isolation in the older community.

Long Term Benefits
Special Events are a great addition to our Getting Back Out There campaign. There are numerous long-term benefits to bringing people together for social interaction. We aim to build on this success with further Special Events throughout the year under the umbrella of our rapidly growing Balanced Lives exercise and social initiatives.
