Action for Elders Walking Initiative
Take our spring walking challenge
We kick-off our Walking Initiative on National Walking Day – April 7th with a 6-week challenge that takes us into May which is National Walking Month. With better weather and the lowering of Covid restrictions, it is the perfect time to get walking…
National Walking Day takes place every year on the first Wednesday of April. It’s a worldwide event “to celebrate the easiest way to be the healthiest version of you” and fits in with the NHS guidelines of walking for health.
National Walking Month is supported by the Government’s UK Public Health Network.
The Benefits of Walking
Walking is one of the easiest and most popular ways to get active. It requires no expensive equipment and is something we all know a lot about, so there is not much to learn. Even 10 minutes of brisk walking each day can bring huge health benefits, from circulation and fitness to building muscle and lung capacity. It reduces your risk of health problems too.
See our guide to the benefits of physical activity to learn more about how to improve your health and fitness.
Join Our Walking Challenge
Sign up to our walking challenge and receive a 6 Week programme of step-by-step challenges that will help you to live a more active live and feel more healthy. It only takes 10 to 30 minutes a day depending on your current fitness level, so it’s a completely bespoke service. And you are in control…
Challenge Yourself
Level 1 Easy – Getting up from the chair, taking a few steps, setting a daily target.
Level 2 Intermediate– Planning a route, setting a daily target – 10 minutes a day – 30 minutes by week 6.
Level 3 Advanced – 30 minutes a day brisk walk, planning outdoor walks, take a longer challenge.
