Annual Report and Accounts
Our latest Annual Report and Accounts tells the story of the important work of Action for Elders over the last 12 months.
It was a year of Pandemics which brought anxiety, loneliness and missed human contact for many vulnerable older people. Learn how that despite this we changed the way we worked, with innovative solutions in health and wellbeing to help thousands of older people throughout the year.

What we achieved together in 2020
2020 was a turbulent year for Action for Elders with the Covid-19 outbreak bringing unprecedented challenges to the organisation. Older people were and still are some of the most vulnerable and hardest affected by the restrictions that followed.
For Action for Elders, this meant quickly and effectively adapting our programmes to support our participants. These included a big shift to online support, such as developing web-based exercise and social classes, improving our social media and helping older people to stay in touch with the world with technical support.
The Balanced Lives at Home programmes have allowed us to expand our services to a larger group of people and made us a more resilient organisation.

A Success Story - Maria's Year
Like so many of us, Maria’s life was turned upside down when Covid-19 hit in March 2020. The fact that Maria found our Balanced Lives groups through a friend’s recommendation speaks powerfully of how the pandemic has impacted her life and how Action for Elders has helped her to navigate some of the challenges she has faced.
“I was losing touch with what was going on outside and was unable to do the things I had been doing happily for years beforehand. I was getting lower and lower and my spirit was getting lower and lower”.
Maria joined one of our Balanced Lives Online sessions. But it was only when she joined our wellbeing sessions as well and got tremendous strength and support from her wellbeing group that she started to turn the corner.
“They encouraged me to go out. That was one of the problems, I had stopped going out for my daily walk. It was a breath of fresh air and it really was a lift. I wondered how I had got myself into such a low space. After that I haven’t looked back”.
