Balanced Lives HOP

Exercises for Healthy Older People.

Action For Elders are proud to announce the launch of a brand-new exercise and mobility session that aims to reach out to healthier older people.

Our Balanced Lives exercises live on Zoom have proved such a success that we have been asked to provide something extra for people with much-improved levels of fitness. The Balanced Lives HOP: Healthy Older People sessions are designed for those that are able to stand for 45 minutes.

Balanced Lives teacher Betty Sutherland explains the thinking behind the sessions:

“These exercises are all about building core strength and improving physical movement. After these short sessions, your overall fitness level will quickly improve; you will be able to boost leg strength and improve posture.”

Who is it aimed at?

This is a programme for those aged 55-plus and is aimed at people of all fitness levels. The key here is that it is a bespoke programme. It can be as physically demanding as you want it to be. As you build up your fitness level the programme grows with you.

Why are we doing it?

It only takes two weeks of relative inactivity – as experienced in lockdown – to lose muscular strength. Muscles need repetition. When football managers talk about player fitness level, they often mention the importance of muscle memory.

You are not expected to achieve the athleticism of an elite sportsperson such as a football or tennis player with Balanced Lives, but you will be surprised how easy it is to improve your overall fitness and general health, whether you are 55 or 75 plus.

Improvements to memory and wellbeing

When we talk about Balanced Lives, we often mention the link between physical and mental wellbeing. With Balanced Lives HOP sessions, we are looking for repetitive, consistent movements and this in turn helps to improve memory. A sustainable approach to health can bring about improved mental wellbeing and give you the resilience to help cope with illness and boost your immune system.

Balanced Lives HOP is a progressive bespoke programme for older people, delivered by a fully qualified trainer with 27 years of experience in all levels of fitness and wellbeing.

Balanced Lives HOP: Healthy Older People sessions take place
