Digital Book Club – Christmas Edition
Our seasonal edition.
The seasonal edition of DBC – our Digital Book Club was a riot of festive fun. Christmas jumpers were worn, while Christmas trees and ornaments were placed at strategic points within the Zoom camera orbit. Tinsel and red hats were also the order of the day.
As usual, the book choices were wide and varied, ranging from J.R.R. Tolkien’s heart-warming ‘Letters From Father Christmas’ to Brian Kilmead’s New York Times bestseller George Washington’s Secret Six, a dark real-life ale of spies during the American Revolution.
The complete list was as follows:

Ann (Participant)
Letters from Father Christmas – by J R R Tolkien
Every December an envelope bearing a stamp from the North Pole would arrive for J.R.R. Tolkien’s children. Inside would be a letter in strange spidery handwriting and a beautiful coloured drawing or some sketches.

Suzanne (Participant)
Girl with a Pearl Earring – by Tracy Chevalier
The book centres on Vermeer’s prosperous Delft household during the 1660s. When Griet, the novel’s quietly perceptive heroine, is hired as a servant, turmoil follows.

Diane (participant)
Collection of Ten Stories – by Veronica Henry
A collection of irresistibly feel-good Veronica Henry titles

Muriel (Participant)
The Secret Life Of Bees – by Sue Monk Kidd
Set in South Carolina in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed.

Myles (Action for Elders)
George Washington’s Secret Six- by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger
The spy-ring that saved the American Revolution.

After the friendly, lively debate took place, there had to be a winner and this time we had a tie. Suzanne and Muriel were both chosen by the group to have provided the most persuasive argument for the merits of their chosen title.
So two £10 Book Tokens will be winging their way to the winners. Well, it is Christmas after all…
