June’s Story
A Lovely Surprise.
The story began when Community Connector for the Ystradgynlais area, Lilian Cornish got in touch looking for digital support for local resident June. As June has cerebral palsy, she struggles with mobility so relies on her Samsung tablet to communicate with friends and family.
June was heartbroken when her tablet would no longer charge. A few people had looked at it to try and see what the problem was, but they couldn’t help.
Help with a Stop-Gap
As a stop-gap, June had been given an Apple iPad on loan from the local library. Our Digital Support Specialist Adrian Scott was tasked with the job of setting it up. Facebook and email accounts were set up on the iPad, but, as she was used to a Samsung tablet, found that she couldn’t quite do what she wanted with the Apple iPad, especially playing games, which had given her so much pleasure in the past.
The First Repair
Adrian had a look at her broken Samsung tablet and after inspecting it closely, he could see the problem; the charging port had been damaged. He took the tablet for repair and returned it to June just a week later.
June was thrilled and any anxiety or worries she had disappeared once she was back in contact with the outside world via her tablet. She had really missed playing her game and talking to people.
Damaged again
A few weeks later June had an accident and broke the charging port on her tablet. Thankfully, Adrian was able to quickly return to put things right again. June says:
I’m delighted with the service that Action for Elders had provided and I had a lovely surprise that they covered the cost of my Samsung tablet repair too,”
