National Heart Awareness Month
The Importance of Heart Health.
This month is National Heart Month. It is a time when people are asked to focus on the health of the heart as part of an overall look at their health in general.
Why we are getting involved
There are numerous variations of heart condition or cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and understanding them is a complex task. British Heart Foundation research estimates that over 17 million people died from CVDs in 2016 and that currently, over 7 million people in the UK are living with cardiovascular complications. The National Institute for Health Research goes on to confirm the value of moderate exercise in helping to combat the risks of heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular conditions.
Balanced Lives programmes help reduce the risk
Yet, there are simple ways to reduce the risk of heart problems. The heart is a muscle and physical activity is the best way to help your heart work properly. There are other factors such as diet (high cholesterol), stress and mental health that can impact on the heart. Our Balanced Lives programmes tackle all these issues and this month we have a full programme of live and online exercises, plus advice and support for those in later life.
