Social Care Winter Pressures
Responding to the needs of older people in communities.
The Social Care Winter Pressures fund from Welsh Government is a superb initiative, set up to help older communities overcome the anxiety and stress that has had a negative effect on mental and physical health.
A recent award we received from the Welsh Government has enabled us to implement and grow our popular Getting Back Out There campaign. This wide-reaching campaign is designed to provide practical help to increase connectiveness, while reducing isolation and loneliness among older people through positive social interaction.
The practical aspect is crucial to our Getting Back Out There campaign. We have worked closely with older people to produce a range of community-based programmes.
Social Inclusion
Social Walks
Our series of social walks bring people together in a relaxed and healthy environment, building confidence and giving an opportunity to take light exercise in the company of others.
Swansea Marina Social Walk – Thursdays Weekly
Social Events
A chance to connect with others, share experiences, laughs and make new friends.
Tea & Chat – National Waterfront Museum, Swansea – Fridays Weekly
Digital Inclusion
Our Digital Inclusion initiative is a practical help project in Wales, targeted at lower income communities. Giving people the opportunity to access online services to keep them connected to friends and family is crucial in the fight against anxiety and loneliness.
Thanks to Social Care Winter Pressures funding, we are able to grow our Digital Inclusion project significantly, to offer a wide range of practical help throughout Wales: including technical assistance; the chance to learn digital skills, help to set people up online and provide tablet loan.
Physical Wellbeing
The return of our live programmes in South and mid-Wales
Improving physical wellbeing is an integral part of our Getting Back Out There campaign.
The Social Care Winter Pressures fund has enabled us to restart our Balanced Lives face-to-face exercise and wellbeing programmes in Welsh communities. We are setting up a number of live programmes across South and mid-Wales beginning in late January, designed to vastly improve participants physical strength, overall health and fitness levels.

Online Balanced Lives Programmes
Our online Balanced Lives programmes have been hugely successful over the period of COVID enforced lockdown. These exercise and wellbeing programmes are available to all communities in Wales via Zoom. They are delivered by friendly, experienced professionals and offer a bespoke service for all types of physical ability.

Action For Elders YouTube channel
Our YouTube channel offers a range of supportive on-demand videos to enable people to exercise at home and also to offer practical solutions to specific health issues such as back pain. We are planning a new series of videos in January.
