The Moondance Foundation Covid-19 Relief Fund

Much-needed help for Welsh communities.

The Moondance Foundation Covid-19 relief fund is a wonderfully forward-thinking initiative, set up to distribute much needed funds to Welsh charities to help them continue their work during the Covid pandemic.

The recent award we received from the Moondance Foundation Covid-19 Relief Fund has enabled us to grow and improve our digital support for older members of the community.

Digital Inclusion Strategy

Our Digital Inclusion project has a very bold strategy: we want to give as many older people in Wales as possible, especially those in lower-income communities, the opportunity to access online services to keep them connected to friends and family.

Providing widespread digital support is an incredibly complex and difficult task, but one in which we have been able to take great leaps forward thanks to the Moondance Foundation.

Learning digital skills

In practical terms, we have been able to provide assistance to members of our Balanced Lives groups to help them develop digital skills. We have also been able to offer our members tablet or laptop loans. It is important to make sure older people and those that care for them stay connected. The more people can communicate with their loved ones, the better for their mental and physical health.

Digital support gives our members access to our Balanced Lives Live exercise programmes to ensure they stay fit and well. The online access will also enable them to view our wide range of video content via the Action For Elders YouTube channel.

During lockdown, we have been able to extend our live online Balanced Lives exercise and fitness sessions. We have also been able to add live Q&A wellbeing sessions which provide help and support for those suffering from anxiety and loneliness during Covid-19.
