Walking to Success
Our Getting Back Out There – Walking Events.
Walking out of lockdown has proved to be one of the favourite choices of our members when it comes to Getting Back Out There.
Our walking guides have been popular with all abilities and fitness levels from the beginner to the advanced walker. Action for Elders walks in York and Swansea have proved a great way to socialise and walk at the same time.
Social Walk Swansea – Sun 26th September
A beach front journey
Our walk along Swansea Bay beach proved hugely popular. We met at the Secret Beach Bar & Kitchen, took a leisurely walk to Blackpill and returned for a well-earned rest and some snacks. Our walk Leader was John Ashley, Walking Development Officer, Swansea council.
The walk was such a success that almost as soon as it had finished, people were asking when the next one would be, but more about that later…
We welcomed 30 people of all ages on our fun and friendly walk, including the Chinese Wales Association who brought people from their 70s to 5 years old, as the grandparents wanted their children to walk with them. Stephanie Booth
The York Walk – Tue 28th September
A walk in the park
This was literally a walk in a park, the picturesque Rowntree Park to be precise. We started and finished at Rowntree Park café and took in some bucolic scenery along the way. The route was a carefully planned mixture of fun and safety. The ‘guided walk’ route (complete with fascinating historical detail) was put together by Celeste. We were joined on the walk by Peter Helm of York Health Walks, which is part of the national Walking For Health programme.
At the end Balanced Lives teacher, Betty Sutherland offered a warm-down with gentle Tai Chi exercise.
“A mix of regulars and new participants gathered together during this fascinating and scenic walk. We all got to know each other having previously met online via our Zoom Balanced Lives exercises classes.” Betty Sutherland
